About

Hi! I’m Alexis. Like millions of Americans, I suffer from food allergies. Finding safe food to eat is a daily challenge, so I started this project to help communicate my food allergy needs .

When I was 9, my family was planning an international trip. Since we didn’t speak the language, we didn’t know if I would be able to find safe food to eat, because I didn’t have an effective way to communicate my peanut allergy to the food providers. Our solution was to print out allergy translation cards, wallet-sized information prints that indicated in a translated language which foods I was allergic to. Using these allergy translation cards, my family and little nine-year-old me were able to successfully navigate our international dining experience and access safe food choices. I also use these cards at home, just to make it easier to express my dietary restrictions.

My experiences have shown me how effective allergy cards were to keep me safe while eating. Now, if I’m ever eating in an unfamiliar place, or a place where I don’t speak the language that the servers do, I feel comfortable knowing that I’ve effectively communicated my peanut allergy using a card. I want to provide others with this same sense of security. So, I created this website as a service to provide these cards to other food-allergic individuals in need.

AllergyCard.org offers customized allergy translation cards and free resources such as allergy-free zone signs. Allergy cards are extremely helpful when traveling (especially to foreign countries), and are also very useful when you’re eating around town. I want to contribute as many resources as I can to help keep people with allergies safe, and I am constantly working on brainstorming new products. All fees generated from this website help cover the costs associated with shipping and materials for printing out the allergy cards.

My goal is to help food-allergic individuals like you and me communicate our dietary needs and to hopefully help in some way avoid an allergic reaction.

Together, we can navigate food allergies and tackle the obstacles of finding safe food to eat. Enjoy!

Alexis
